Juan is a Postdoctoral Fellow at the BrainLab in UTA. He earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the University of Trento, Italy. His research focuses on leveraging Deep Learning (DL) and Self-Supervised Learning (SSL) models to characterize behavioral and clinical outcomes from multimodal neural data.
Juan has worked on different neural representations including EEG, fNIRS, and fMRI improving DL models to improve quality of life of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) and Stroke.
Currently, his work aims to enhance the generalizability of self-supervised frameworks for clinically relevant applications that can impact positively patient’s quality of life — particularly (1) the transdiagnostic biotype decoding based shared neural patterns from Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), and (2) the early prediction of neurodegenerative changes in Alzheimer’s disease
